The issue is not that they said fuck it to the relatively clean designs of the old suits but they then went "Hey, let's place some vomit textures on top, gotta have that HD detail porn!!" . I can only imagine how horrible they'll look in motion with that much visual noise, their best bet would be to get Bay to direct so we're spared of it by way of shaky jump cuts, just like in Transformers.

Anways, todays WTF: Breaking news as the AAA game industry has a fresh idea

The naming thing is still retarded as fuck tho and I'm willing to bet MS had their hands in it so they can be all smart with the marketing, BF1 coming out for Xbox1 first, dohoho. Whoever thought of it should have their thumbs smashed with a meat hammer.

Why would anyone think an FPS set in World War I would be fun?
Because almost 2 million casualties in 3 months is where it's at

Western front was a fluke stemming from the officer corps being unable to learn how to offense for a distressingly long time

I mean, according to this wikipedia article, the German officers learned how to do it by watching Austrians getting rekt by Russian shock troopers:
Quote
On June 4 the Russians opened the offensive with a massive, accurate but brief artillery barrage against the Austro-Hungarian lines, with the key factor of this effective bombardment being its brevity and accuracy. This was in contrast to the customary, protracted barrages at the time that gave the defenders time to bring up reserves and evacuate forward trenches, while damaging the battlefield so badly that it was hard for attackers to advance. The initial attack was successful and the Austro-Hungarian lines were broken, enabling three of Brusilov's four armies to advance on a wide front (see: Battle of Kostiuchnówka).

The success of the breakthrough was helped in large part by Brusilov's innovation of shock troops to attack weak points along the Austrian lines to effect a breakthrough, which the main Russian army could then exploit. Brusilov's tactical innovations laid the foundation for the German infiltration tactics used later in the Western Front.

The Canadian military does plenty, the thing is they do it on behalf of NATO so they never get recognition.

Western front was a fluke stemming from the officer corps being unable to learn how to offense for a distressingly long time
Modern military strategy requires not just a breakthrough but afterwards fast exploitation units to rush through the gap and hopefully surround portions of their frontline.  Elsewise the enemy can form a second line surrounding the breakthrough point, or retreat their frontline to a second set of trenches.  The existence of machine guns combined with the lack of tanks meant that there was no effective cavalry unit to fill that role.  Which is why militaries still tried to employ horse cavalry; the need was there, the existing tech just wasn't up to the challenge.

"Successful" offensives happened, the problem is without any followup they resulted in only very small territorial gains.  Compare WW2 where a successful attacker could take territory almost as fast as the army could march.

Forming a second line requires the defensive side to have reserves available nearby, which is very much not guaranteed, and retreating to the second line of trenches can be countered by using short artillery barrages instead of long protracted ones, simply giving the defender no time to retreat.

I mean, yes, you can't do the "surrounding" style offensive in WW1, but you still could do much, much better than the people at the Western Front did in 1914-1915. I mean, they did start to change their tactics in 1916 and later, but that was after two years of basically wasting their armies on offensives that weren't - and couldn't be - successful in any sense of that word. I mean, they were giving the defenders enough time to retreat before they even started to actually move to attack.

Just lost sending a detailed message because of the annoying slow internet here. It died just as I sent it, and now I can't recover what was typed. >_>
Coincidentally this always happens when I'm doing something important that requires internet access.
Coincidentally that means it occurs a lot of times. :I

As a suggestion, it might be worth typing it up in a text editor then copy-pasting it over here in future?

Ctrl-C it before you send it, so you can just paste it again if it fails, or get something like lazarus.

You could also, as sjm said, type it up in something else beforehand.

Mmph, thanks you two. :)
It's just argh. I put much value into what I've written only to have it wiped off <_< And especially since I've had the habit of Ctrl+a,c,v into notepad++ weeks ago!

Relevant to thread topic: We have lizards at home. Lucky, pink, house geckos that scurry around everywhere. It is May, and that means ant season (especially flying ants...termites?), so we get to see those little things a bit more than the usual 1 per month :D
I'm wondering why they freeze when they see me until I touch them though.

Eh, Trump is an eejit. But I think the Trump Hate is getting a little out of hand.

Or maybe I'm just avoiding conforming to society as an act of rebellion against matriarchy.
