BTW, are you sure the old stuff you saw was actually any good? Or were you pretty young when that came out? I always hated it. I think it's always been equally terrible. Maybe it wouldn't actually stack up like you think.

From what I understand talking to folks that hire, it's fairly often they don't even call all three when that's all they're asking for. Sometimes they don't even contact the references at all. References are admittedly often used to talk to previous employers, but they're sometimes just there as another way to pare applicants off.

I suppose ukuleles are somewhat less common than guitars, but still. Although they're probably not quite as uncommon in NZ, anyway.

Edit: If the fact that said woman was greatly skilled at playing said ukulele was the reason you were staring so intently, that would make a lot more sense.

Most of the people I see playing instruments like that tend to be sitting down somewhere, not randomly wandering footpaths, and this is a hipster college town that I'm in. If she was walking and playing I could definitely see the staring.
