I admit to have skimmed over the article first off.

But if I got the proper jist of it a pro e-sports team is complaining because their primary sponsor is a porn site and respectable establishments won't let them compete?  It seems like they are making quite a few attempts to make that less obvious (which confuses me about what the point of the sponsorship is if the team yer sponsoring isn't showing your company name), but they are still being sponsored by a porn site.

I do not know of any traditional sports teams being primarily sponsored by any companies in that profession.  Closest I can think of is the NASCAR Viagra car, and that's not quite the same.  I can't imagine why Team YP thought this would be any different, of course you won't be allowed to compete.  Deal with it, or get a family friendly sponsor.

P.S. No I do not personally have issue with porn sites operators or folks in that profession.  But part of sports is being able to bring your kid to something like this.  Once pornography sponsorships start getting thrown around that stops being able to happen, no matter how well they try to hide it.

Heh, not sure what they expected. That kind of sponsorship would not fly in most professional competitions, especially not in one that target a younger demographic.

The only issue is they asked they event holder and game devs of one of the games involved, and they were alright with it. Apparently it was only a problem when they began gaining prominence. I think they have a reason to feel a little bit hard done by.

Anyway, if they're a good team, they should be able to find another sponsor.

The no porn sponsorships thing dosn't seem like it was a new rule however. (at least according to a footnote at the bottom of the article)  It seems more like the competition gave them a pass to compete more or less under a 'we know yer breaking the rules, know that as soon as some controversy pops up you may be pulled.' kinda deal.   And while I doubt the competition should have done that, the team and sponsor really should have seen it coming from a mile away.

Ye, they did ask the event holders and the very game devs of one of the games they play in, and both were fine with it. They actualy did play on some events, I think, then ESL actualy caught eye of them, and thats when the whole controversy actualy began.

Its certainly not a new rule or anything in regards to these things, though. ESL knows that the only connection they actualy have with youporn nowadays is ~we get most of our money from them~, but the problem is, a lot of big ESL sponsors are very anti porn, so ESL is more or less protecting their own sponsor money and not just ~enforcing the rules~ like they claim to be.
