It's an early 200 level course in college, so they've already been exposed to about a year of "the fun of programming" (cue rainbow) and now it's our job to actually get them thinking about the theory and the ideas of programming rather than just randomly typing things in and hacking around them until stuff sorta-works.

That strainer my stepdad put in the shower. Yeah, turns out that was a bad idea after all. It didn't just stop hair and stuff going into the drain, it stopped the water up too. It did drain, but slow enough that, instead of pushing everything into the strainer for easy removal, it instead left a layer of such things on the bottom of the tub. That was not fun to clean. It's really a difference from clearing the drain every so often to wiping down the tub every single time, which is a task of similar physical strain and biological nastiness. Great job, stepdad.

Great fun to begin with, but after a few arguments about the physics of a fencepost, or why the magnet-bit on the end of a tape measure doesn't affect the numbers, I'm ready to throttle someone.

TA (in the "does most of the grading and holds visited office hours, but doesn't actually lecture on anything" sense); but I've been the TA for the course for a handful of years now, while the professors switch off who is the actual teacher for the class every couple years.
