Bah, semantics. Give me one definition of Marxism that does not include Marxism-Leninism. And no, 'what Marx himself wrote' is not a valid definition - mostly because that goes completely against the common usage of the word, but also because the late Marx contradicts a fair few things the early Marx said.

Huh? Sorry, but I don't understand what you're trying to say.

And as far as I'm aware 'Leninism' as a stand-alone term is rare to non-existent - usually one refers to that specific ideology as 'Marxism-Leninism', a subtype of Marxism. That was the official terminology in the Eastern Bloc, anyway.

I learned today that the tax penalty for not having health insurance is actually a per-month fee. This is bad since I haven't had insurance for the past month, I am waiting for my job to offer it, and I don't know when it will be offered.

Afaik, you can be uninsured for 3 months before the tax penalty applies.

In other news, why can't I find more than two sources that talk about the Greek myth Pygmalion's relationship (that is, the version from Ovid) to the George Bernard Shaw play Pygmalion?  I'm not just randomly Googling at it, these are fancy databases and whatnot and I cannot find more than two things that are actually relevant and not just name-drops.

Despite having spent the entirety of Sunday, and two nights, searching.

Currently watching a very, very strange movie called Journey to the West.
It has a sense of humour that's even more bizarre than the Chinese comedies I've watched in the past... it's actually quite good!
Going to have to re-watch it sometime in the future with friends whilst heavily intoxicated.

Monkey King is best king!

You're gonna need to narrow it down for me, though. Journey to the West has been adapted many, many times.

It was the 2013 version, starring actors named Qi Shu, Zhang Wen and Bo Huang.
It was pretty dang good, even if I didn't realise quite what it was going into it!

When I started this movie I had no idea it was a prequel to Monkey Magic, I thought it just had similar themes.
It wasn't until the Monkey King acquired his trademark circlet towards the end of the movie that I began to suspect what was going on!
That was good fun, now I feel like re-watching some old school Monkey Magic. Did the 'Journey to the West' story originate before Monkey Magic, or was it written as a prequel afterwards? It's interesting either way, I'm thinking I'll have to do some research on the topic.

The Journey to the West is a popular Chinese story that is centuries old. So... I can't imagine that Monkey Magic came before it. Just a hunch I have. Needless to say, it's an influence on a lot of other works and stories in a similar way that Arthurian legends are in Western fiction.

Educate your foolish Western self! "Journey to the West" is one of the Four Great Chinese Novels. It's a great read if you find a good translation, all fantastical over-the-top violence and ridiculous characters.

That movie looks like it was only very loosely based on the novel. I'll definitely check it out though; Chinese comedies can be pretty great

Shit my dad gave me Journey to the West when I was like 12 as an abject lesson in being a brat. I think I passed that book around to people for the next 10 years before it came back to me.
