...Probably because these things seem to tend to happen during weekends, and I'm barely here during weekends for various reasons. I wont miss bohandas either, though. I saw him go full flamebait and borderline racist more then once.

When I read through the thread (before cleanse as it was still there) there was almost no discussion of it at all. So that being his ban-rope is unlikely. The other likelihood is the trans-topic, which I find more likely.

I think it's the other way round. He was offering his (albeit unpopular) opinion with the trans stuff, while the... Hentai imprint stuff was against forum guidelines.

Yeah, it's just one of those things, like ME emigration, which people can't handle talking about rationally, probably because it touches on things that are too closely held to be discussed rationally for a lot of folks.
I'll admit that I've stayed far away from more than a couple threads just because from past experience I know that if I engage on any level above shitposting about lighthearted things that happen to be relevant, I'll let myself be dragged into the morass of emotionally compromised ranting. If you enjoy getting your teeth into an argument and don't like being banned, some things are just bad ideas. :|

Yeah, but. Like. That's not what actually happens. What happens is that someone takes offense and goes off on a rant, other people get drawn into the argument, and then someone decides that they don't want to deal with the bed they made and sends a report instead of dropping it, arguing more effectively, or trying to stop the argument and make up/compromise. *gallic shrug*

I wouldn't have a problem with the vicious arguing if there was no moderation of that, because it's genuinely cathartic and fun. The problem is when that bumps into someone who's just genuinely uncompromising on whatever the order of the day is. FWIW I don't think I've sent more than 2-3 (non-spambot/advertising) reports in the five years I've been here, because my reaction to someone flaming me/misinterpreting my posts/whatever tends to be more aligned with "Oh, hey, yeah, this is gonna be simultaneously immensely frustrating and really fun to hash out! I don't doubt that I've been reported more than a little for that, 'cause when there's a higher authority with functionally absolute power a lot of folks tend to revert to crying for help when the person they're engaged with doesn't immediately belly-up. You see that sorta stuff happen all the time in meatspace with people who do silly stuff like calling the cops when their kid disobeys or whatever.

So that's why I don't engage much on high-sensitivity topics.

It's just--man, I took a lot of shit when I was a kid. I used to be super-sensitive to the point where I didn't even understand the concept of people being intentionally mean. And then I went to fairly shitty public schools, so now I basically don't give a rat's ass about anything said by someone that isn't really close to me, at least as far as taking offense goes. So arguments, even when they're completely exacerbating, are also an enjoyable way to blow off steam for me because they mean basically nothing regardless of the subject--if the other person puts together a well-reasoned argument that I have to work to counter (and maybe am even eventually convinced by), great! If they just throw out fallacies and personal attacks, that's cool too! It's the perfect blending of academically-honed aggression and precision with top-tier shitposting. I have too much fun with that to indulge in it anywhere where doing so would have meaningful repercussions, though goodness knows I slip more than I should.

Because almost it never gets to the closing phase where someone tacitly admits defeat and stops arguing, someone openly acknowledges that the other person probably has the right of it, or both/all parties either come to a compromise position or agree to disagree. There's pretty much always someone who would, to assault and batter a metaphor, rather go narc to the parent/teacher/cop/supervisor/whatever instead of settling the dispute reasonably like a normal human being. Presumably because it's easier than allowing yourself to admit that you aren't perfectly right about everything. Maybe it's just me, but it's always seemed healthier to let arguments run out to their natural conclusion, for the sake of closure if nothing else. Again, *gallic shrug*. It can't be helped, so we have to adapt to live with it.

Yeah... as this seems more likely I am thinking about logging out permanently. His responses to that discussion being categorized as trolling, flaming(WTF even), and/or bigotry rub me the wrong way.

Seems a bit silly to jump to conclusions, dude. Repeated (obviously) means more than once, so I think it was more than just that stuff.

Toady seems to be quite reasonable afaik, so he's not going to ban someone on one incident, unless that incident is a fuckin' doozy.
