i mean, you're absolutely right - i was being facetious there, the point being kind of "look at bauglir being a hypocrite" for the sake of hopefully getting a chuckle, plus i got to reference a conversation that actually occurred

but, yeah, it's not the lifestyle i wanna have but there are plenty of identity foundations that strike me as equally weird that get accepted on their face, and that kind of acceptance seems like it's probably the way to go re: living a good life

so naturally what really baffles me about this isn't waifuism, it's the fact that they had to have a schism despite holding a perspective that no doubt subjects them to endless ridicule and should therefore prepare them to understand how unproductive that kind of judgment can be for a community

not that it's surprising (splintering among socially ridiculed groups is nothing new - it's why we even have fandom wars, much less a bunch of other things that'd probably spark a flame war if i tried to compare them to this), it's just incomprehensible from the outside

EDIT: Not to say you should self-censor, or anything. This is a good conversation to have! And you don't need to agree with me, either. I'm just voicing my opinion on your opinion. Even if nobody convinces anybody, we all still learned something about each other and that's generally better than being quiet for fear of being judged.

It's actually game folders (of Heroes 3 and Warcraft 3, if you must know), and yes I do, because I've added a lot of additional things (maps, editing programs, patches, mods) into them over the years and re-gathering those would be nearly impossible, since many of them no longer exist on the Internet (or would be really hard to find again).

I don't actually play them, like, at all. It's mostly sentimental value at this point. But since its one of the few rare things I actually have sentimental value in, I really don't want to lose them.

I think we're mostly on the same page with this. It's not that I have a problem with any subculture really. But when that subculture has turned over itself so completely that these suddenly become "real life" issues with all the outrage labels included....that's where I lose them.

To give an example more relevant to most people: it's like when game company X has a shitty pre-order scheme and a fan goes, way, way, way overboard on the analysis and at the end of 6 paragraphs you get something like "and that's why EA is effectively Hitler." As someone who considers games their primary form of entertainment, statements like that just make me want to say "Are we still talking about games? Because Nazis and pre-orders have nothing to do with each other."

Google Drive, not Docs. Docs got combined with it at some point though, and it pretends it doesn't exist on my computer since it crashes the moment it opens.

Well, it could be an issue of underrepresentation, but this isn't an actual social group, anyway, its just a crazy fandom like many others :v
Socially awkward dweebs with a creepy fandom suffering from infighting because what they identify as their fandom suddenly doesn't seem to cater exactly to what they like. Kinda like how the furry fandom is always fighting itself as one side likes to pretend there's no perverts in the fandom and the other side tries to shove their infinite fetishes down everyone's throats; and the homestuck fandom which was almost constantly having drama over fan produced porn and arguing over wether its ok to expose the younger fanbase to that (hint: its not).

Its quite a common phenomena in this type of group.
