It's possible that you care too much.  I used to hear a parent's voice whenever I tried to relax, yet managed to sleep despite loud partying downstairs.

For the future, I know some people sleep with earplugs, blindfolds etc. I haven't tried them myself for lack of a need, but maybe you could try them.
