I kinda like e-sports occasionally, mostly Starcraft... Starcraft 2 is okay too...

Ehhh e-sports are kind of a hostile horrific thing to try to get into.

Unless your REALLY good... it is hell.

And even if your that good, you can easily be sunk due to situations that don't even involve you.
Oh wow no, I have no interest in actually playing Starcraft 1 or 2 online.  It's fun at LAN with friends, but online?  Haha no.  It can be fun to watch the professional games with live commentary though.

I also saw an amateur game of AoE2 which went on for 2 hours due to various hijinks, and yet was entertaining in because of the commentary (a high-level player who got increasingly frustrated and incredulous) and archived twitch-chat.  There was this one faction that lived on for half an hour as only a navy, carefully harassing players in shallows.

I was doing other stuff as it played, of course.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Czb64v3WMY

The thing about E-sports is...

It isn't E-Sport until your doing it professionally or trying to go for that level.

It isn't like Sports where you can just play sports...

Mostly because E-Sport is mostly a marketing name for what professional videogame players do. Or rather it is a alternate name for Professional videogaming

The burden of proof lies with you!

Only in a proper debate... as in a debate for a contest.

The whole "The burden of proof lies with the person who makes a claim... ANY CLAIM!!!" is based on nothing.

It is the equivalent of making "No hands" part of everyday life.

---

Yet because I am sure people are going to argue against this...

Should I state that laying a foundation AND challenging it... both require a burden of proof anyway? Neither "Cricket is a team sport" and "Cricket isn't really a team sport" are supported.
Sigh. Disclaimer, I don't care that much about cricket.

I was starting to hope we'd get some winter after all here in the Netherlands. Three days ago, temperatures dropped slightly below freezing, and two days ago, we even got close to minus 10 Celcius during daytime.(14F).

But no. Today, temperature rose by 25C compared to two days ago, and we set yet another 'warmest day ever since we began recording in 1901', for today's temperature hit 16C (61F). I think that's the 30-somethingth 'warmest day since we began recording' in just a few months time.
Damn, that difference in such short time. Dunno what to wear anymore. What would be too cold one day, is too hot the next :P

You said there as no teamwork. No is an absolute. You won't expect the... outfielder? (I don't know wtf they're called, I'm Scottish) to pick up the ball then run back to the wicket to get a guy out.

In terms of running between the wickets too, there's teamwork. The batsman will usually say when they want to keep running to their running mate (again, whatever tf it's called) so it involves some amount of communication.

I believe there was a reasonably famous instance of Ian Botham delibarately running out his captain because he didn't like him, for an example of teamwork (obviously gone wrong)

Cricket occasionally has good hits, so it's at the bottom.
Watching golf is probably more awful.
But lawn bowls tops it. One of the most boring sports I've ever been forced to view, and that list includes fishing.

Edit: does anyone find watching poker particularly exciting?
I kind of feel that poker isn't particularly exciting when it's not your money on the line.

Ah. And now comes the cricket rant.

Basically, with the batsmen thing, there is a perfect system, which goes wrong when either someone screw up their calling to run or not so badly the other person just won't, or when someone lets their ego or fear get in the way of running. And its like acting: you say the wrong thing, the other guy gets out. So that's not teamwork, as far as I'm concerned, no more than buying a loaf of bread involves teamwork.

Much of cricket, e.g. backing up, fielding, bowler-wicketkeeper stuff, is like this. Individuals trying to perform as well as possible, and operating according to a strict set of rules, relying on one another but working alone. I mean, you could call it teamwork, but to someone who's played a game where you actually have to know your team well, make physical sacrifices to help weaker members, do everything individual task aware of your part in the group and work out how much to put yourself at the centre of things without being timid or greedy, it doesn't feel much like a team sport.

The exhaustive 536-page cookbook of cod recipes available here in Portugal proved not to have a dessert section, though the "Mousse de bacalhau com leite de coco e ananás frito" (cod mousse with coconut milk and fried pineapple) suggests this was not for lack of trying.

It's like any team sport, in that respect.

I guess cricket is more similar to baseball, though. It's essentially an "individual team sport" in that the biggest battle is between the pitcher and the batter, perhaps with some variety depending on who/how many guys are on-base.

Basketball is the worst offender of that, in my opinion. You can have one really good player on a team, and the goal of that team is essentially to get the ball to that guy, and the really bad thing about it is often times that strategy works.

I figure it's like most sports, they are really only exciting if you identify with one team/player and in this case 'make it your money' figuratively speaking.

Cricket does place a higher value on personal performance, sure, but there's still plenty of interdependence. For example, a good runout is usually the domain of an outfielder and a wickie who know exactly where each other will be, and the outfielder's neighbours have to know exactly where they'll be covering so as not to get in the way and to be able to recover if it goes wrong. It's not a team sport the way, say, hockey is where you have to know everyone exceptionally well, but there's still a lot of teamwork involved.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.
