I don't want any dang snow anywhere near me, no sir. The weather here is lovely!
Didn't I make a thread about such things a while back?

In other WTF news: it just took every ounce of willpower I could muster just to drag myself off of my bed to go make some soup in a cup. I'm not sure exactly what that fancy liquor my friend shared last night was, but it seemed to be quite potent. Or maybe I just haven't slept enough in far too long... probably both.

The weather is amazing. Too amazing to not be snowboarding.
If it was possible to cover my entire street in snow, I'd be carving that shit like nobody's business.
There'd be awesome tree runs out the back too.

Sucks that snow here is almost geographically impossible.

It finally happened. A commercial made me want something.

I've never even heard of this game and I'm no stranger to the obscure console games of old.

A lot of the top ten on that list are fairly understandable.  Ghosts & Goblins, Silver Surfer, Dragons Lair.  Jeckyll and Hyde is #8 and Battletoads is #9, not sure I agree with that.

#4 on that list is Somari the Adventurer, which from the images available there seems to be a bootleg mixture of sprites and artwork from Sonic and Mario.  Since most bootleg games are broken messes it wouldn't surprise me if that game really is #4.
The hardest NES games list doesn't have Takeshi's Challenge so it might be bullshit.

Also, fun fact, there is a quite popular Polish book where Poles basically built a nuke in secret and ACCIDENTALLY (because that is what we would totally do) exploded it which caused a nuclear war and later on we had to mop it up by going back in time.
That sounds amazing
But how can Poland back in time if Poland cannot into space?
i hate myself now
Technology. Also, in the book aliens disguised as cats are basically guardians of time, one of the people who goes on the trip literally dissapears simply because he tried to buy some pre-WWII Polish chocolates (they jump around quite a bit, XVIII century, I think, pre-war Poland, other times... I don't exactly remember) And when they, in the end, fix the whole thing so the nuclear war never happened, the sole survivor (two of them actually lived through it, but the other one sacrifices himself because their target (guy responsible for the nukes) is basically one of his distant ancestor) comes back to world where nobody knows he even existed, what happened and said technology doesn't exist. And Poland is stuck in completly fucked-up state, for reasons. And he has second thoughts becuase all of his best friends basically sacrificed themselves and nobody will ever even remember what they did. He shouldn't even exist but temporal fuckups and cat aliens.

Alien cat time travellers.
This sounds like Kobold Quest.
So, who had the idea first?

Hard to tell, both were released in '06, but presumably were in the works for some time before.

Actually I think I remember that there was some pretty old Soviet sci-fi book with time travelling alien cats in it

it had children accidentally stealing their parents time travel machine and go around on a fun-filled journey through time and alien time travelling cats were somehow trying to steal their time machine or something, I guess?

this is why "who had the idea first" contests are dumb, there's always gonna be some obscure source which has done this thing waaaaay before it took off into popular mainstream.

Speaking of Soviets and extraordinary cats, I've read this one story by some Russian writer where one sciencist started to create genetically and cybernetically enchanced cats called K-10s. Get it, K-10s... Really nice, though it got worse in the end because government shut his project down and I got a bit because his favourite pet K-10 got killed by a truck when it escaped and tried to get to him. It got better in epilogue, since it was made clear that K-10s somehow made it anyway and started to kick some major criminal ass in France and presumably in the whole world.

So just got an email rejection for a job I applied to online but never interviewed for in person.  Normally not a big deal, but I must've applied to this job 9 or 10 months ago since I've been working since last June and haven't been looking for work since.

I've gotten emails like that before as well. The job hunt process would be a lot less awful if you got feedback earlier than a year later.

I was doing lazy translation of some '80s Turkish disco, and google translate was giving garbled nonsense until I got this:

It just gets more confusing the more I chop it up.

Goodness how bad are gamer's hearing?

I got a gaming headset because... well it was a gift and my old one was broken (too expensive AHHHH!!! I only wanted like a 50 or 25 dollar one O_O)

And HOLY COW!!! even on the lowest settings it blares right in my ear... with NO way to turning down the volume on the headset itself.

Then again I am not a fan of Razor's stuff... I feel they have a "Purchased reputation" then a "earned" one.

How long does it take before a headset stops hurting your ears anyway?

If you're talking about physical pain because of how it presses on your head/ears, never. Bad ergonomics are for product life.

Regarding the volume, try a program called EqualizerAPO. It allows you to alter the preamp value of sound you receive from a device. Not sure if it'd work in your case, but it did for my convoluted setup. Without it my volume is eardrum-shattering on 2%, with preamp set to -25dB it's comfortable at the 10-30% range.

I hate Tuesdays.  Always have for pretty much my whole working career.  Today I feel like I've been tripping over my own shoelaces for half the day.  Made mistakes on simple things.
