The oddest memory just rose to the surface.

When I was little, my brother had downloaded Nesticle and a boatload of NES ROMs on to our computer. I was scrolling through the games list and saw Excitebike, that game about dirt bikes. However, because I wasn't all that great at reading yet, I thought it said "accessory". Because TV commercials taught me that "accessories" were something that Barbie had, I thought Excitebike was a Barbie game for girls, and I didn't want to play it.

That's the end of the story. This has been Itisnotlogical's Dull, Boring, Uninteresting Memories.

Why does this kind of thing stick with me? Was that moment really important to my development, so much so that it remained buried under the surface until it appeared just now?

Haha, I love that kind of inconsequential, strange childhood memory.
It's always nice when they come back to you. I think so, anyway. :)

Prescriptive is just descriptive that's been around for longer.
AKA mistakes of the past which we really ought to be learning from.

The sole good point of obfuscating meaning is that it makes it much easier to pun.

I have those. Not even as a kid; I distinctly remember passing a certain bus stop by a church like three years and deciding I'll remember the shit out of that moment. I still do.

I distinctly remember arguing with my dad when I was four about whether or not I would remember arguing about whether or not I would remember that argument many years later.

I remember all the failures in my life, why cant memory use all this space for remembering formulas or other useful stuff?  :-\

I used to remember my failures. I got that heart-clenching feeling of regret, too.
Then, I did something rather bad, couldn't sleep for a while because it was always there, and eventually the heart-clenching regret became background, and soon after that, silent.
Now I don't regret anything. I don't feel anxious about anything. Most things which happen to me, I forget.  Actually memory has become a large issue recently.

Amusingly, this was the sad I was gonna write before I got cheered up via haunted slab.

To never repeat those mistakes again - scars don't go away even after the wounds have healed
I know that feel man, every time I try to sleep it's just all the mistakes I've made on the back of my eyelids. True to it though, they are mistakes I have not yet repeated

Humans are specifically adapted to focus on the negatives. That's why the news are as it is and why depression is so common.

I uh, I have no idea how I deal with it. I do find myself less likely to be depressed when I'm busy remembering formulas and other useful stuffs though.

Even that isn't photographic memory. Photographic memory relies on being able to remember things that you didn't notice in the first place, but that you saw in your peripheral or whatever. That does not happen.

and i definitely don't have perfect recall, i have to look up how to do a for loop every time i switch programming languages
