I remember trying out Game Maker once before deciding it was arse to work with and dropping it.

My understanding is that the most recent version no longer supported that particular type of shenanigans, which is why it wasn't included in the final release.

also the main thing i've got in mind is using machine learning shenanigans to help playtest, in the "find the stupid but obscure strategies that trivialize things" sense, and also to provide an effective enemy AI without me needing to learn how to play my own damn game or, more importantly, predict how everyone else is going to so that i can do things like have particularly clever recurring enemies that learn from the player, so if you berserkergang your way through your first fight with 'em the next time they'll show up packed to the gills with armor (so you have to plan around the plan that they are planning around your plan).

those are obviously way too ambitious for somebody starting off, but long term i'd hate to invest all my effort in learning something that doesn't enable me to do what i ultimately want to do

it'd be like learning how to use a chainsaw only to realize that it doesn't have a julienne fries setting
