Apart from the various forms of reality-fu, a style of karate called Go-Ju Ryu, meaning Hard-Soft Style. Admittedly I'm still working on the soft part, because it's much easier to punch someone's jaw in half than it is to move just so to hook someone else's punch in and get them off balance and break their knee in three moves.
Part of the thing though. Even though I'm a black belt you never stop learning, which is what I love about it.
You seem to have forgotten that you also dabble in Pragmatism-Fu.

Oh, that too. Truth be told it's where I learned quite a bit of pragmatism-fu as well.

Well, and have to fight in the first place, last resort and all.

Right by my desk at work is the water cooler, a mini-fridge and a small stand.  The stand has the usual: paper plates, cups, coffee, plastic forks and knives...and a can of WD-40 that appeared out of nowhere.

I used to do a bit of Taekwondo.

Unfortunately, that means my limbs are now illegal. Damn.

WD-40 works miracles, making rust croissants edible may be one of them.

Your workplace has also been infiltrated by the robot menace, eh? Fun times. There's a teacher around here who once abruptly stopped mid-lecture, left the room, and returned a few minutes later to dump a box full of batteries into the trash before resuming as if nothing had happened.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

This paper that I'm reading for my communication class reads exactly like a parody of such papers. Half of any given page is citations, and the other half is really long-winded technobabble descriptions of things that could be said much simpler. It's not anything that needs heavy scientific language for any reason, but it seems intentionally written to conceal the underlying lesson.

Are teaching materials written like this so that educators feel like they're getting their money's worth?

It's a communications class.  They are teaching you what not to do.

Or they are channeling Calvin & Hobbes.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.
