i mean, c'mon, finding pornography stashed under a dresser or something is like a rite of passage
It used to be, I guess. Less so these days. Harder to find people with hardcopy porn. More "stashed in an oddly named folder" in the modern era.

Crummy right of passage, though. I didn't find porn in magazine form until years after I ran into it on the internet and in library books (go to hell, anthony, and take your goddamn firefly with you).

"stashed in an oddly named folder" in the modern era.

The only moderately risky click on my computer is a buried folder titled "great tits" that contains dozens of high definition photos of passerine songbirds. Nobody else I know thinks downloading anything NSFW is a good idea, either, when it can be got so easily without keeping something on your computer.

I did have a shitty old rig that got turned into zombie that provided storage space for some porn site, but I didn't download all that so I don't think it counts.

We're gonna start hearing about 10-year-old boys getting caught looking through dad's "special collection" of advice columns and short stories now.

Still better than hearing about [random gun-related tragedy, again.].

Kinda' doubt we'd actually hear anything about the porn, anyway, except maybe in generalized terms. I still cheerfully remember finding horse porn in websearch history on middleschool (early teens, basically) computers, and I'll note again I found Firefly in a public library when I was in single digits, age wise. Kids perusing lewd material isn't even the most remote of news, and it's rare to find someone who isn't completely bugnuts that gives even the most solitary of shits about it.

Someone in the factory is retiring. We are having more difficulty than I thought there would be in finding a replacement.

We ask for people who have experience using factory machines. More than a few people who have applied said that they have many years of experience. Then they act surprised when they discover that factory work involves manual labour, and nope the fuck out of the place.

There were also a few women who refused to take the job because there weren't enough other women working there. And one man who left because there weren't enough women there.

I think that's rather underrepresenting the problem, given the sheer number of people who are bugnuts. especially in the US.  :P

I remember seeing a lot of this when I worked in a factory too. Lots of my fellow temps noped the fuck out when they realized that they'd actually have to do some work while they were there (some of it physical!) and that people'd be irritated if they were just screwing around talking to people on their shifts and therefore leaving their work for others to cover. None of the operators and technicians were like that, but I saw dozens of people go for reasons like that in the time I was there.

The internet used to be far more explicit in regards to its porn back in the days, despite what people tend to think. I still vividly remember accidentaly downloading some VERY questionable stuff on bearshare before it got nuked, thinking it was a game .rom file I had been searching for, which it was, except it was bundled in a folder containing pornographic material that involved things I'm unwilling to describe. All of this and worse was so easily accessible too, specially through peer to peer networks. Of course, this stuff (unfortunely) still exists out there, somewhere, but its much more well hidden then it was, back in the day.

Hell, many youtube style porn sites had some pretty bizarre stuff back in the day, which they were legally forced to remove.

I had a job in a factory once, for two weeks.  On the interview they lead me to believe it was a clerk job when in reality I'd be spending the day moving boxes around on the floor.  Liars and con artists, the lot of them.  So don't think this doesn't happen in reverse too.

Goddamned computer will not stop crashing. Almost certainly a CPU or RAM issue. Most likely CPU, since it can happen during POST and even in the BIOS menu.

Last time(and just about every time before), I could fix it by cleaning the dust out of the CPU fan. Doing it this time seems to have made it worse. Then again, I probably just blew most of the dust further into the CPU fan. While I could probably clean it by removing the CPU fan, the last time I tried that, I broke the mounting pegs and had to buy a new fan - and nearly broke the mounting pegs on the new fan in the same way on install. Seriously, these mounting pegs are piles of crap.

Still going to be a few weeks before I can order the full set of replacement hardware. I have a meeting with my manager tomorrow to have my paycheck put on my debit card, through a process that sounds like I ought to be able to do it from home.

By the way, is there a way to clone everything on a hard drive to another? There was a 1TB drive I was looking at, and I figure that tracking everything down to re-install some of it will be more than difficult and less than possible.

... copy/paste? I mean, there's specialized cloning software and hardware, but for the layman all you'd really do is plug both hard drives in (maybe with assistance of an external docking bay) and copy everything (you want) from one to another.

I think Akura wants to not have to install things if the program has issues with being copy-pasted with teracopy or something.

Mm... there's maybe software of some sort that helps with that sort of thing out there, somewhere, but what it is or where to find it, I got no clue. Generally that's a sincere PitA that at minimum would involve making registry edits (often by hand). Could be less effort to just bite the bullet and re-install everything that can't copy over painlessly.

So... does only Canada care about calling the Inuit... Inuit? and not Eskimo? (ignoring that not all "Eskimo" are Inuit but another group)
