The word "crosswalk" made me go WTF today. It's weird to me.
Crosswalk - it's like a crossdresser, but with walk!

(I don't even know why I did this)

I would expect nothing less from Poles. I'm sure Hungarians could come up with something better but the book thing is still pretty good.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Dirt 2. We will now educate you in basic and complex techniques to achieve success during gameplay.

ACCELERATE TO MOVE FOWARD, BREAK AS NEEDED, TURN IN TURNS, GET FIRST PLACE, CROSS THE FINISH LINE, WIN. Sometimes you may need to reverse, too.

Never played that game, but proper technical turns, gear shifting, when to brake, and other such things are important in any racing game, and not always obvious or included in a tutorial. The guide could probably fit a few advanced driving maneuvers, such as the Scandinavian Flick, in its pages as well.

... not in any racing game. Hell, most of the ones I've actually played don't have gear shifting, and the proper time to break is "never" in practically every racing game I've experienced. Pretty sure I've played some at some point that just flat out don't have breaks, period.

...no, not in all racing games. Mostly you want to go fast, let go of the accelerator when turning more than a little bit, and pick up items (if it has items) or ignore road rules and cause accidents against competitors to gain boost (if its burnout). Occasionally you might want to use the handbrake to drift, but the actual brake? Nope, that is a silly button.

RIP Burnout. You were a good series before you got displaced.
And any reasonably realistic racing game will have uses for the brake.

Out of the few racing games I've played, only gran turismo games were kinda realistic about driving physics or at least demanded more technique from the player than just "move as fast as possible and just let go of the accelerator on curves". You really had to use your break often and control your acceleration on curves, and cars legitimaly felt different, and you could tune them in several ways to change their performance, instead of just turning your car into a ricer's dream.

I agree, I like either mario kart style racing or realistic stuff like Gran Tourismo (the only one I played was....iirc 3.  It was for the PS2.  Loved it.).

The stuff that's trying to be realistic but you can do entire races without even touching the footbrake on anything short of a superspeedway really turn me off.
