So who the fuck told these people that we know light has no mass?

Mathematicians. Quantum mechanics are built up on maths, and these maths have a massless particle that serves as an... force exchange particle (I don't know the proper English name for that term) for electromagnetic forces. This particle is, as far as we know, photon. Sure, that's an assumption, but all experiments that have been conducted have not disproved that assumption. These maths also explain nearly everything that happens in the world of atoms.

If you know of a way to build a physical model that has photon with mass, which also explain all other things that current quantum mechanics explain, then sure, go for it.

The weirdest hang-up I've ever seen people get on is light being affected by gravity.

Like, they're really sure of the idea that only things with mass are effected by gravity, which is wrong, but then they say that Einstein must have been wrong because it disagrees with something that is known to be wrong

Does light have no mass what-so-ever? Practically no mass and no mass are 2 completely separate things with a very important distinction. 0.00001(add as many zeroes as you want before that one) and 0 is huge when that is the difference of a single variable in a multi-variable system of the scale we are talking about here.

I thought light did have mass because it is composed of a particle of matter, moves through space with a speed, and seems to be able to collide with matter(refraction).
The listed mass of a photon off of google is "0; < 1×10−18 eV/c2" which means at 0 or between it and that extremely small number. So who the fuck told these people that we know light has no mass?

*groan* Light doesn't interact with the Higgs field.  Therefore, it is massless.
I think.
I do know, however, that the Higgs field is responsible for mass existing.
