Also yeah, stuff like that was being written back in the 90s. Back in the 80s, too. Even earlier, really. Heavy metal magazine had its first issue in '77, just as an example. Non-human involved erotica-style stuff has been around for a loooong time.

don't you know

sex in media started 1 January 2000

before that, everyone were glorious chaste/married people

No, no, P, I can confirm that untrue. Pretty sure it was either '95 or '96 that I first found porn online, and I've seen archived stuff from earlier than that -- there's a few collections floating around of old BBC licentious an' lewd material. Think I ran into Anthony's Firefly before that, which was pretty much my first encounter with sexually explicit media, period.* Also the first time I saw the word necrophilia :Vand yes i know that was a joke

Also nah, at the conversation in general, that thing isn't really what I'd call furry media, exactly. I mean, maybe retroactively? But it's more relatively-standard early-ish sci-fi/alien smut than anything related to the more modern furry-labeled material. Proto-furry softcore, maybe? Kinda' interesting to contemplate what the proper categorization would be...

*E: Well, that I recognized as such. I read some of the adept series before that, but at the time wasn't really cognizant of what I was reading. Some things can be ignored, giant bug proboscis up the bum, not so much. Especially considering what was happening before that.

E2: Incidentally, I recommend to no one that they read firefly. Just. Putting that out there.

Oh now I remember where I've heard of those Chakat things! 1d4chan has an article about them. Apparently they're so bad that even regular furries hate them.

They don't deserve the title of furries. They're bad OC territory at best.

Dunno i'd say the "dawn of furries" starts with the internet so mid 90's would be more or less the time the fandom started crystalizing altho they did exist well before that as well. Just not as organized or easy to find. (nowdays all you have to do is type in "furry" in google.)

They aren't that bad but... gotta admit they like to bring their chakat characters into RPG sessions (no matter the setting).
Some are straight up loons. One gave me hell because i called adamantine "magic" and after a short angry lesson (Captain Americas shield is NOT magic!) ended up ragequitting.
And the entire "Chakona Space" is more or less a ripoff of Star Trek down to even "borrowing" Caitans (because the rest ain't furry enough) and addiing a crapton of furry races in the place of other races (And suprise tehre is something sexually wrong with some of the races and the local equivalent of Q is a... fertility god.

Yeah, maybe. Mid/late 90s was kinda' the point that bit started solidifying. Still, like I said, at least the broad strokes you described shares a fair amount with just plain ol' sci-fi silliness, which at least that early is where I'd personally lay the metaphorical blame. Things got (well, still get) pretty weird when aliens get involved.

You don't remember entering his magical realm? That's because you were born there.

No escape

Furry porn only gets weirder the deeper you delve, yeah.

Nah, that's true of pretty much all of that sort of thing, not just furry stuff. 'Fraid to say that just making (some of) the participants anthromorphic or act like animals or whatever isn't even remotely enough to win the weirdness race, or even give it a notable competitive advantage. It's just a thing, and a quite minor one as things go.

... in other news, I'm starting to wonder exactly what photobucket did that makes anything hosted on their site completely invisible to me. Maybe it's an opera thing, I'unno. Have noticed the few times I've went to the site itself to try to view something the layout and whatnot has turned absolutely miserable. Can't even seen the gorram picture without javascript running, and sometimes not even then :-\

Probably because they use javascript to fetch the image.

Sites nowadays use javascript for everything, it'll be harder and harder to surf the web without it.

Is true. Still kinda' terrible design to have it so your website is completely nonfuctional without it, though...

E: Though the more irritating thing is it doesn't work, say, here on B12, even with javascript on. Or on hosting site itself.

I dislike what happened to Photobucket.

I just want to view an image--it has to load the entire page the image is hosted on. It doesn't help slow nets. :/

You're welcome.

Admittedly, it only has minor behavioral influences, but still.
[PARANOIA_INTENSIFIES]

...I'm probably overreacting, but now I'm absolutely horrified by the possibility that people I know and love are having their behavior even remotely modified by this thing. ;__;
* Tiruin giggles.
Fun when paranoia latches onto the general idea and misses specifics. :P
Reminds me of when I first studied Mr. T. Gondii back in my MedTech days. Much fun with studies \o/

And yes, you are overreacting.
There's a LOT MORE FACTORS affecting and influencing behavior! :D
