Client unhappy with the boxes. We didn't fill them right. The stickers were supposed to be face-down, damnit, and now we have to open all of the boxes and fix it by hand.

That's not what I was told though. I was told to go and "flip the boxes upside-down". Now, I'm a dumb-fucker, and take things ultra-literally. I can barely get jokes most of the damn time, and even then it was because I have to try not to be literal. So I took my stupid ass down to the back of the warehouse, grabbed an empty skid, and started flipping the boxes from the full skid to the empty one, placing them upside down. Because I took "flip the boxes upside-down" literally, and not as they meant, which was "empty the boxes, then refill them the way the client wants".

Would that actually be any different from turning the entire box upside down though? And I think your interpretation of the instruction is perfectly valid, "flip the boxes upside-down" sounds like a straightforward instruction to me. You take the box and then flip it upside down. There's no reason why anyone would read sticker-related implications into that.
