Indeed... That's quite user-unfriendly, given abbr is standard html.
Signalling that there is something to mouse-over with dotted underlines has been standard practice since pretty much forever.

And this here is my WTF for today. Why on earth would chrome not show that ?

I guess it's probably too late to matter now, but if you want to "pause" you can just quit the game. When you start it back up, you will be pretty much exactly where you left off. I never tried it in the middle of a boss fight, but I assume you would just start outside the fog door.

PC players can also press alt-F4 and just instantly quit, I believe it sends you back to your last autosave when you reload (warning if you alt-f4 while the game is in the process of autosaving it could corrupt your save. Make backups!)

Firefox has addons you can use to change the appearance and aesthetics, yo. More than what I've seen with Chrome, at least.
