I rigged up a thing that takes snapshots of websites and then tries to do text recognition, with the aim of trying to find buttons and information that might be text saved as images (whether to make it pretty or to conceal the information from bots).

So I'm playing Crusader Kings, and I end up dying what appeared to be randomly. How? I killed me because I was plotting to overthrow me. Somehow.

The problem was I wasn't insane. I was actually playing a god modded mode with the ruler creator. I used Ruler Designer Unlocked to give myself every good trait in the game. And I died not five minutes into the game to...self murder?

So I'm playing Crusader Kings, and I end up dying what appeared to be randomly. How? I killed me because I was plotting to overthrow me. Somehow.

If I remember correctly, there's a bug in at least one version where names aren't removed from lists as they're selected, so when it chooses the perpetrator, that name isn't ruled out when it next chooses the victim, and so on.

Man, that just pushed the nostalgia button. Best fucking thing I ever saw in any MMO I've played. Especially the dude's interview, where he basically said that he exploited it to kill people and got his main account banned because it was funny.

Spoiler: Longwinded explanation of a small bright point of drama in an old MMO (click to show/hide)

For those of you who don't know what the fuck that was, it was a pretty big thing. A new skill was released that let players build their own houses (and god damn but I realize now how much time I wasted with that meh MMO when I remember that being new and fresh). Thing was, you had to enter an instance to do it. One of the features was controlled PvP areas where you could kill people without the usual death penalties (normally on death you'd drop all your items except for the three most valuable, as valued by the game's stores rather than player prices, with a few modifiers to that).

Anyway, the guy found a glitch where he could keep the option to attack people after being ejected into the main game world, which at this point had no PvP in most places. His response was to go around murdering people at random until he got banned. The best part was that a couple of the people he killed had party hats, rare items from a very long-ago holiday event which could be traded, with absurdly high artifical value -- they typically sold for hundreds of millions of gold in a game where the very best top-tier equipment rarely went for more than ten million. By the time I quit, the rarest was approaching the hard cap on how much money you could physically have, which was a touch over two billion gold.

Why does that matter? Because to the game, those rares were still only worth a pittance, because they were "just" trash holiday gifts when they were introduced. So you could have just some random crap in your inventory and that'd edge out the super-valuable rares in the game's valuation of what you keep on death. Guess what some of the people he targeted had? Fuckin' hilarious, that. Even better was that it happened on June 6th, 2006.

Also, that video was my first experience with Nightwish. But yeah, I remember that video. THE NOSTALGIA.

WHY do I always bite off so much at once

I made two heroes based on Homestuck for Dota 2 over the course of the last month or so.

I then decided to make a gamemode based on Homestuck. Naturally, this means having creeps that when killed give gold as well as dropping grist, which are defined in a separate KV file using its own unique syntax. The grist is done, but now I need to make the creeps and a map to put them on. That is the point I have to get to to actually test what I want to test.

thankfully I have a map done and creeps are easy to make

but still, I decided to go straight from "simple hero" to "full MOBA", which is a bit weird

on the other hand, at least MOBAs are obviously going to be the easiest thing to make in the dota 2 engine
