Articles seem to say this software is a result of Google seeing what happens when they run their image-recognition neural networks in reverse. So the specific features that get picked out and exaggerated are not completely random, it's based on the training data from millions of Google images. The dog-face bias seems to be because they used determining different dog breeds as a test case when designing the software, so there are lots of dog photos in their original training data.

The swirly LSD colors aren't anything engineered either, they're pure neural network feedback artifacts. Which means the whole thing is actually much more exiting and scientific than you'd think. Structures based on the brain and trained organically to do image-recognition have artifacts similar to real LSD trips when you impose feedback loops in the network.

There are ways that a phone could join a distributed compute cluster, it just wouldnt be that useful of an addition, given that most SoCs inside phones are weakneed piles of feces compared to the more robust desktop systems that such distributed computing projects actually expect.

For added hilarity, build a compute farm from old wifi routers. (also possible, and even more weaksauce in terms of CPU)

Did I do something weird that I didn't do with my other images? And why are so many people so interested anyway?
Well, my "imgur reputation" (ha!) is at -9, with my notoriety level "forever alone", whatever that means. And I didn't even intend for anyone outside Bay12 to look at my images

I was understating how cool it is. I find the whole thing pretty fascinating. Artificial intelligence and neural networks and stuff is really cool. I'm hoping to major in ai in college.

There's a quicker one here that takes ~15 seconds. I don't think it works the same as the official google program. But it does provide various filters that can achieve different effects. And it's faster.

You posted to the gallery, which you don't need to do to host images. On your page (NJW2000.imgur.com or whatever), you can upload images without submitting to the gallery. People won't see them unless you link them or display them on webpages like this.
