Incest generally isn't illegal (in and of itself -- it sometimes manifests as illegal acts, but if it's between consenting and competent adults...), and when it is it certainly isn't a capital crime

I prefer to think that the attorney was in fact the sibling of the death row inmate.

Then the statement makes considerably more sense-- the attorney would be quite capable of conveying the message, and would have good reason to give such a response to the request, and it does not need to be "weird" like everyone assumes.

An old acquaintance messaged my phone today, and we had a quick exchange on our holiday plans. What makes this weird is, this guy had literally disappeared three years ago. We used to be friends, until we slowly distanced from each other. Then one day he stopped responding to any calls from anyone, and nobody could tell me where he had gone. Yet now he messages me as if nothing had happened? He even used a nickname that I had three years ago, but that nobody else calls me by anymore.
