Latin would be a useful skill to learn if it were still the primary language of western civilization, but it's not, so we don't teach it anymore.

Print characters are used in advertising, on computers, on packaging and labels, in textbooks, in instructions, in subtitles, just about anything you could conceivably read in day-to-day existence. Cursive only makes it hard on people who don't use cursive regularly (a majority that is only growing). Even signatures are dying as electronic forms and PIN numbers become more common. Let it die already.

I'm not saying it shouldn't be left behind, having two competing standards that are so close together in purpose is a waste, I just take issue with people saying it's useless. It's not useless, it just didn't catch on as well as manuscript did.

And ark, do remember at one point the only actors were men. I have to admit, the morbid curiosity part of me wants to see that come back a little, maybe for stuff like all female-character burlesques. I can't help but thing there would be something delightful about that.

I spell out my name when I sign it. It's completely illegible of course. Which I've been told is actually a good thing in the only way that matters, in that it's harder to forge. Since actually reading it doesn't matter at all.

We should all just have person symbols instead.

I start out writing my name, and then it fades into a vague scribble that kind of follows the motions I might be making if I was writing out my name.

Depends on how much I care. I almost never care, so no two signatures of mine look alike.

I think you're missing the point. Trans people have a history of oppression from cis people. Gay people have a history of oppression from straight people. Women have a history of oppression from men. People of color have a history of oppression from white people.
It's not just that you can't have a trans woman being played by a cis man because, well, he's not a trans woman. What, does that mean you can't play an 18th century French aristocrat because you aren't an 18th century French aristocrat? It's because of several other reasons. For one, these roles have been used to degrade the people they portray for decades. For another, there are plenty of gay or trans or black or Arab or female actors that don't get work because a white cishet male was chosen instead. It's already hard for them to find roles to fill and now you're taking away the roles they can fill.

Are you saying it's offensive because it's traditional for it to be considered offensive, or that it's offensive for obscure historical reasons that are only still remembered in the context of explanations of why it is offensive?
