Anyways, I finally sat down to read this book of essays (Life Studies) that I got for writing class. It's amazing how many of the essays boil down to "Aww guys, can't we give marxism/socialism/etc. just one more chance?" Naturally, none of them feature citations or evidence, just a lot of "I think that" and "It's my opinion that".

Seriously, it's stuff that I'd expect a stoner freshman with a Che T-shirt to write on their Macbook. I was very surprised that I didn't see the word "sheeple" in any of them. Is this really the level of writing that is considered acceptable as teaching material?

EDIT: Looking at the bios for the writers, many of them have degrees. I don't know where they went to school, but if I ever turn in a serious argument without any citations I get a big fat F on the assignment.

That's actually fairly normal. Very young kids are, and I don't mean this in a hostile way! Little sociopaths. They can't see the world from other peoples perspectives yet, so when something has no value to them, it might as well actually be garbage as they're the only person that exists in their little bubble currently. So he'll thankfully grow out of it.

It's very interesting actually, how our brains develop so damn much in a few short years. Though till then your friend may want to start making sure he can't grab much that isn't his.

Saruman had a massive paper mill he used to distribute his save the trees fliers.  The few hundred trees that were cut down would have saved millions more.   Except the treants attacked, destroying the operation and all the fliers before they could be distributed, making the trees deaths in vain.

I mixed random stuff I had on my desk until I got this mixture strongly smelling of window cleaner and fizzing when I add salt. It also fizzles when I shake it gently.
