When I was a child, first going to school, because I was an early-riser and the school was just down the road I'd usually be there before any teachers even arrived. And because my school was right next to a newspaper factory, we'd get stacks of free newspapers. It'd plant the seeds of my incandescent interest in the world; its past, its present state and how the present state's machinations would unfold in the future. The shady stuff is just a branch of this interest, as I find it entertaining and useful to try and see behind the lines, so to speak, and get a bigger picture. There's a particular high one gets when they see an article detailing how a political coalition failed because one MEP withdrew, and then you recall that MEP had a meeting with a certain commissioner weeks prior, you know? Plus as a general hobby when I write stories but fail to come up with any ideas, I lurk communities just shitposting conspiracy theories as whether true or not, they're bloody creative. And when you do see something true rising to the surface, like pedophile hollywood directors making cuckold porn on children's TV shows, an impending mass killing or mass shooting being prepared by individuals or governments, or buildups of military troops on foreign borders, taking control of vital bridges in what could only be the preparation of a dirty war... Well, damn. Shit gets real.

My new laptop (kindly provided by the online college I'm studying with) has Windows 8.
Jumping Mecha-Jesus on a rocket-powered pogostick this is awful. I finally understand everyone's complaints about it!
The laptop has an annoying keyboard, too, but the keyboard on my previous laptop wasn't very good, either.

Pretty sure that's a dowry/bride price, and whoever was telling you it was US tradition was pulling a fast one on ya.

US/Western is pretty much the place where dowries died Meanwhile, (rural?) India still goes strong. To the point where you hear about people anguished about having another daughter/killing baby girls because they can't afford the price. At the very least it's a cultural motif, in Bollywood movies and such.

No, he means paying for the actual wedding itself. Open bars and fancy food aren't cheap, but if you don't have them at the reception people will talk about it behind your back for the rest of your life and speculate about whether you're cheap of merely poor.

The cat fur in my room is driving me crazy.

The cat just keeps getting into my room and now it is contaminated pretty thoroughly now.

I can't even vacuum it and expect to get rid of the allergens (this is ignoring of course that you need to "steam clean" carpet to get rid of dander)

... seriously though, cats are totally able to learn to stop going in to a room, you just have to be consistent in keeping them out or removing them and maybe mildly brain anyone that's interfering with the process. Sometimes Often the biggest obstacle to training a pet is training the other people in the building...
