... y'know, if you make that teapot a reference to russel's, that might actually make an interesting vaguely absurdist setting. Tech powered by stuff that's conceptually there, but unprovable (or near infinitely unlikely to be proved) and unproven, with a great many very intelligent people very pointedly not investigating things to keep the world powered. The great villain of the setting could be someone that's actually started "collecting teapots," so to speak, causing massive destabilization across the world/galaxy/whatever as impossible clarktech starts to fail.

That does sound like an interesting concept. Both Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams have covered similar concepts, but I don't think there were any about that entirely.

One more thought about 'punk types: what would one call a 'punk genre based on the period from the mid-60s (after atompunk) through the mid-80s (before cyberpunk)? Transistorpunk? For a less technologically-based name, rockpunk?

EDIT: Since I was ninja'd I'll also respond to penguinofhonor. While I don't generally support outrage over offensive/stupid tweets, you have to take the situation into account: It's not an actor or game developer or scientist making bigoted jokes, it's someone who is paid to theoretically oppose bigotry making bigoted jokes.

Ultimately I'm not sure if she deserves to be fired, but she should recognize that she said something stupid and apologize for it instead of continuing to defend herself while the world outside of Tumblr and the Reddit Fempire can see right through it.

Like... as if Straight and Gay people are in this eternal conflict with one another... among other things.

Ironically, both groups have more of a valid reason to be in conflict within their own group. A person of the same sex but different orientation is not a potential romantic rival but a person of the same sex and same orientation is.

To my understanding it's not really a separate type because the vacuum tube age was simultaneous with the "atomic age", so I'd call it atompunk.

The other side of the story, if anyone cares. That imgur post is lying when it says she's "outright stating that she does not want white heterosexual men at her university". That sign was for a meeting for women and nonbinary people who had felt they were being ignored in favor of cis straight men. It's being taken out of context.

The #killallwhitemen thing is also obviously sarcastic. She dumbly made an offensive joke on her personal Twitter account. Woah, that never happens. Personally, I'm tired of internet outrage over dumb tweets, and people losing their jobs over them. This is like that woman who made the kinda racist tweet about Africa and AIDS last year. It was stupid then and it's stupid now.

Oh. Well. This is evidence that imgur is not the most accurate of internet sources.

Though I think magic punk stuff already has arcanopunk or something like that.

I'd suggest tubepunk, but frankly that sounds like something you'd see in porn instead of normal fiction.

I always thought of it as a person's trait... not as an actual... like... person. As if you could go to planet straight to find the people of the straight.

It is a useful tool for masters to divide their subjects and pit them against one another. That, and the whole tumblr identity politics thing is inherently self destructive, with everyone trying to become the specialest snowflake. I still remember the hilarious things white feminists were saying to black feminists when the latter accused the former on tumblr of only campaigning for the former. #notyourshield was a more recent example, but that one wasn't as funny. The only particularly funny thing I can recall from it was when prominent SJWs started accusing everyone of using #notyourshield of being white men, as if that was even a legitimate criticism. Cue all these minorities and women apologizing for being white men lel
