It's very rare to separate babies from their parents these days, all three of our kids were in the room with us 100% of the time, they were weighed there and everything. Our last was coombs positive (causes jaundice) and had to be in a UV box for 3 days, also my wife had a minor "nearly died from bloodloss" thing, so was in the hospital as well. They just shared a hospital room, and again any testing etc. was done there.
