Apparently he has sideburns now again though.

Picture 1 and 3 don't sport sideburns. Contrast with picture 2 where he looks silly as fuck and is sporting small sideburns(though the silliness is more the mustache).

Whether sideburns make you look silly depends on face structure, ears, hair, and pose(also on person-to-person basis but that's a given).

I find the following NCs attractive and they have no sideburns.

It is all about what your eyes are drawn to. If you don't have sideburns then your face is framed by your ears and where your head hair is. Sideburns are not required but they do make your face appear more angular which is conflated with masculine.
