The Fault in Our Stars is one hundo percent overrated. Not garbage, but I didn't like any of the characters and the whole thing was a hell of a lot less profound than it thought it was.

The Fault in Our Stars isn't what I would consider Oscar Bait. It has a lot of Oscar Bait elements but it's aimed at the wrong audience. Oscar Bait tends to be pretentious and emotionally manipulative of of affluent middle-aged people; The Fault in Our Stars is pretentious and emotionally manipulative of angsty teens.

Reading this, I note that it not only is not a metaphor, but a simile is used to describe the metaphor.

their channel also has video series on Psychology, Anatomy & Physiology, Astronomy, U.S. Government and Politics, Literature, Biology and Chemistry. i love their videos and saw lots of them in high school and my college bio professes occasionally shows their videos. they have series sponsored by PBS and have a whole professional team of animators that work on the episodes. don't dismiss them.

Crash Course is good. Some of the Vlog Brothers videos are good. However, John Green is still a terrible author. He's pretty awesome in just about every other respect, he just writes about as well as Stephanie Meyer. (Hint: Stephanie Meyer is a terrible author as well)

What makes them emotionally manipulative? Evoking emotions is one of the basic things art does.

"Evoking emotions" in terms of good art leaves it up to the viewer to decide what to think. The ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, for example, is what most people would call Good Art. It's beautiful (although I'm sure there are some people who think it's totally gay) but any emotion it inspires is from the viewer, not from the artist bashing you over the head and saying "FEEL SAD FOR THIS CHARACTER. THEY HAVE MANY PROBLEMS. ARE YOU SAD YET? LOOK AT ALL THESE OTHER PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT NICE TO THE CHARACTER. GET ANGRY AT THEM!"

God Forbids what is beautiful. It is already established that it is hella jealous and that only incarnation/intercession(by its son) is capable of making it compassionate for mankind. Hence why knowledge, mixed fabrics, and pork are banned.
