What?

Shouldn't that be the opposite of a neckbeard? I thought the point of neckbeards are that they don't bother to groom themselves.

I think the person meant it more in the sense that both are symbols of fringe members of a community with an obvious self-selected physical marker.

e: Also, IDK how it is abroad in most places, but in the U.S. dye-jobs (especially things that aren't just straight brunette -> blonde) are both done and maintained poorly, so after a week or two you end up with a patch of sort of nasty, faded color layered on the natural-colored roots (and spots that missed dying). My time in Scotland confirmed (albeit anecdotally) that bad dye-jobs may in fact be a distinctly American trend.

Heh, yeah.  A friend helped me bleach and color my hair purple once.  It lasted almost a whole day before turning pink, and staying that way.
Looking back, I think I looked pretty good...  I was really shy about it, but happy.  Sometimes people complimented it!

Though in the best picture I have handy (taken while it's still purple), I look really evil due to the lighting and confidence:

In NZ the people who do dye their hair odd colours tend to take care of it. I dunno, that's just my observation.
We've got a crapton of feminists here though, so maybe it ties in? Who knows?

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

I just touched a container that was recently pulled out of the oven without hesitation. Dammit brain, don't turn off things like survival instinct.

If it makes you feel better, I knew someone who grabbed some steel he'd just heated up to white hot.
Permanent nerve damage in his thumb.

Somehow I don't see permanent nerve damage as being equivalent to a land grant.

That's my point, it doesn't hold for anything beyond 'burned part of hand'; accidental vs. purposeful, context, outcome, &c.

Still gains points for the casual way that reference was dropped, though.  :P

Though the reference was rather forced, I am glad to know of this story.  Huh.  Those Romans.

Have anyone ever felt like they were unhappy with what they want?

Like I don't mean "Now that you have it, it isn't what you wanted"

But... you have it in your hands... it is what you want... but you just aren't really happy about it?

The chase is better than the catch, as they say. What you're talking about isn't uncommon.
