Wish I knew my bloodtype. I asked the doctors if they would tell me once when they took blood and they said NOPE.

That's because you have to send it to a  different lab and it is done by  different people, using different machines.

At one point I was told that I would be lifetime ineligible because I had spent more than 6 months cumulative in tropical regions, although now I'm reading the American Red Cross criteria, and it looks like that's not true. I was just ineligible for a period of time after returning from China.

Still, I need what blood I have.

Yeah, I'm guessing Hawaii has to fly all their blood in from the mainland.(?)
Or maybe it's only malarial tropical regions (like South China).

I too am ineligible, but only temporarily. They don't let people to donate blood while they're taking antibiotics because that implies a bacterial/viral infection, and that is Not Good™ for anybody involved. I think I have A+ (the most common type after O+) but I don't know off the top of my head.

I wanted to give blood, but the Red Cross website tells me you need to have healthy blood.
I'm probably anaemic(spl?) or some such bullshit, and they apparently don't want people applying to donate unless they know their blood is good enough. So, fuck 'em, that sounds like work.

Possibly also because people have allergies to some antibiotics. Penicillin-laced blood, for instance, would turn me into a giant red welt.
