Ah yes, the sterile bananas...

Crossbreed between two wild species. One which has nice flesh and too many seeds, and one with few seeds but the flesh tastes like ass. We've had all kinds of problems because most banana plants are clones, which of course means that diseases run rampant in them.

I think they actually have gone nearly extinct during a particularly bad year.

IIRC the banana we have today is actually a different breed of banana than they had in the 60's, because that particular banana actually did die out. So we used a different banana after that that was nearly as large and sweet.

Wild bananas are also really round-ish. Next time a creationist asks you why bananas have a shape that's phallic convenient to hold in your hald, tell them that' it's because of genetic engineering.

Yup. Panama disease oblitered the Gros Michel banana, which was the dominant cultivar. There's still a few left in Asia, but...

We use the Cavendish banana now. We've genetically edited bananas to the point they reproduce asexually. Bananas produce no pollen or seeds. Without humans, the bananas we cultivate would die out and disappear. all without test tubes. Of course, since they're all almost identical genetically, diseases like Panama disease go through them like shit through a goose.

The whole idea is bad, really.
Warping and changing the environment through science that may-or-may-not be sufficiently tested with the goal of feeding more humans as overpopulation increases nonstop... well, it really drives home what a plague we are. 

So rather than just shake your head in scorn at solutions, what are you doing about it? Something's got to feed those people. Decrying the human race achieves nothing.

Whale milk, or so I presume. Whole cow milk is actually rather thin.
Particularly when homogenized. Its thinner than half and half.
