that is a good color, also I didn't know highlights were a natural thing, my hair is just one flat boring color.
Yeah they are. It can get kind of weird in facial hair, though. Especially when the hair is brown and the highlights are blonde (my case).

What I don't get is the obsession with unhaired bodies.
That? Signifier of youth, mostly (let's not get into how vaguely creepy that can get, sometimes.). Aesthetics and texture, to a lesser degree. Hygiene is a mildly distant third. Think that about covers all the bases. It's pretty understandable and mostly straightforward why the general opinion of non-top-of-head hair leans towards negative.

I've never found balding or bald heads to be unattractive.

I mean you've got Captain Picard in that camp and he is a hottie, (Patrick Stewart is also an awesome dude that speaks out against domestic violence.)

I understand the insecurity in the way that my weight makes me hate myself, but I think, as people get older, balding matters less.

I remember this one hair club for men commercial, where the guy is upset about losing his hair and his wife says "besides, you don't have to lose your hair."

!!! wtf. If your wife says that to you, stay with your father or whatever guys do to tell their SOs they are angry with them, (make her sleep on the couch?) until she appreciates you for who you are.

according to my thought experiment, the apparent speed of the light ray equals 0.5c if watched from behind, 1.0c if watched perpendicular to its movement, and infinity if watched from ahead

pretty interesting huh

Err... I'm pretty sure the relative speed of light is equal to c when viewed from any angle and while travelling at any speed. That is, if you were to travel at 0.5c, relative to you, light would still appear to travel at c.

How would that work?
the light travels at 1.0c

but to see it at some point you need to receive a reflected light from that point, which also moves at 1.0c

so when you see the light reflected from some point, the real position of that ray of light is 2x further away

because real speed of the light is 1.0c, the apparent speed of light as seen from your position is 0.5c.

ADDENDUM: It's basically this but applied in reverse

What you're measuring is not the speed of light, but its apparent rate of distribution. Its wavelength and frequency (therefore its speed) remain unchanged by the point of observation as long as you stay in your frame of reference.

Humans are incapable of perceiving individual light rays as is...

The apparent rate of distribution is what we actually see, though, so ignoring that would not be wise.

From our point of view, an object can move arbitrarily fast in our direction, no more than a speed of right in perpendicular direction, and apparently half of speed of light if moving away from us.

It's pretty fun, actually. A ship moving from our position at 0.9999999(9)c toward some star and then immediately moving back would be seen from our stationary point-of-view as first, moving at 0.4999999(9)c toward it, thus taking almost twice as long, and then almost instantly coming back at apparent speed many times greater than the speed of light.

Like, if it takes that ship 1 second to move back to us, it would take the same amount of time - 1 second - from our point of view for it to return.

Yes, and that's why "observer" tends to mean "frame of reference" rather than "local measuring device" in scientific literature, because it's easy to convert between the two, and because it's much easier to do calculations in frames of reference.
