Had nested dream. Been long time since that happened. Wake up from reading episodic magazine articles I've already forgotten the content of, intending to pop into wtf thread to note that apparently going to sleep after/while reading things vastly increases chance of dream-reading, but doing so with magazines also makes them, well, episodic (and you know what seriously blows? Dream-reading something awesome, getting to the end of a multi-part piece, and not having the next part on hand.). And then I wake up again.

At least I woke up in the right bed this time.

My computer hit a serious performance dip for no obvious reason. That's concerning. It's also weird because when it happened at default settings I gave MAXIMUM GRAPHICS a try just to see how bad it would be, and the drop was about the same....

Im having a serious problem justifying playing without a damn military.  Its been a year, and I cant get people to grab a bloody hammer to defend themselves from zombie hair and zombie head.  Nevermind we cant rekill them; Lets get them damn dwarves armored first.  This is crap.

I never need a military because I somehow never generate a world with anything threatening in it. Even in an "Untamed Wilds" biome, I get absolutely nothing attacking me. Best I get is some Kea People stealing stuff.

I never need a military because I somehow never generate a world with anything threatening in it. Even in an "Untamed Wilds" biome, I get absolutely nothing attacking me. Best I get is some Kea People stealing stuff.

The last fort, which I abandoned because the nobles screen broke on me, couldn't appoint a commander.

We had to kill 2 semi-megabeasts with untrained civilians and war dogs.  Is this supposed to be a joke?  'hahahahaha, you wont need a military, silly player'.  Nope.  Nor do I apparently need a broker, or bookkeeper, or doctor so I can know if I need a traction bench for my mechanic, who is now oozing blood from his shredded scalp.

  Its carped, it goes against everything else in DF not to be able to establish a working military.  I embarked with 4 trained dwarves!  Why are zero using weapons?  The best I can do is work around it by giving out the three 'unifromed jobs':  hunters, miner, lumberjack.

Overheard at dinner the other night (from a group of college-age white girls):

"So, my mom found out she's half black but she didn't pass the gene on to me."
"Well, thank god for that!"

Thankfully, I didn't actually overhear this, my girlfriend's daughter did and told us as we were getting into the car. Which was good -- otherwise someone would have been wearing the green curry I was eating because LOLFAIL.

White college girls. So much to say about them.

I overheard a group discussing Ugg boots (for those out of the loop, the most stereotypical item of upper-middle-class-girl clothing of the last few years). What color matches which outfit, how many pairs each of them has. Good lord, it was like a South Park parody of the demographic.
