Apologising for someone elses actions? What's the point?

Nonono, the thread over on Kong was an apology for being a jerk to someone with a life like his.

Look, I know the recent incident was the most exciting thing that hapened here since ]grisha5, but lets PLEASE not mention it any more?

Actual WTF:

Apparently, in WWII, the Germans wanted a way to automatically aim bombs at ships in the water. So what they did was strap bombs to CATS, because cats always land on their feet and avoid water. Idea was, cat is dropped from high up, cat sees water and air rolls towards solid ground, namely enemy ship. Then, once cat is landed, detonate bomb. They failed to account for the fact that cats usually faint when dropped from that high up. The Murricans tried something similar with bats, with similar results. Look, I know strapping explosives to animals is FUN, but please don't try to justify it as efficient or even effective.

Did they get the idea of aircontrol from FPS games? Unless the cat had some rudders or something, it's not going to land anywhere it wants to land, lol.

Also, the bat thing was for firebombing... Not for guidance...

The idea was that bats with the firebombs attached would enter the (wooden) japanese buildings to roost. Then they would set the bombs off.

The bats were actually very effective they just escaped once, so the program got scrapped.

I would've thought it would take a lot of effort to catch and transport enough bats. Seems like a lot of effort for something that's easier to do through other means.

Escaped and firebombed the facility.

Also, I still would not call covering a city with bomb-laden bats useing them to aim the bombs...

-Dang ninja-

They used a bat species that had colonies in the billions for that reason.

It worked better than the Soviet's AT dog program. They trained german shepherds to dive under tanks with treats, then released them into battle with a cluster of AT grenades strapped to their back that would catch on the tank's chassis when the dog climbed under it (expecting a treat) and explode. The explosives worked brilliantly, the problem was that the dogs preferred to go under the Soviet tanks, because those were the ones they'd been trained with.
