Perhaps feather trees are a lifeform which has traits of both plants and animals, but isn't categorized as either one.

Though I guess it's more animal-like than plant like, sort of like a sessile land crinoid. No idea whether it is entirely a photosynthesizer or it eats tiny insects and other microorganisms as well.
