Not only not a spider, but smaller than some actual banana spiders. Shameful.

You get banana spiders down here in florida. They are occasionally possessing a limb span roughly on par with a grown man's face. And like to chill between trees! Fortunately in really large, terribly obvious webs, but for those people who are moving too fast to notice there is nothing left to them but gratuitously loud vulgarity and an unconscious prayer that the reflexive cursing doesn't lead the mr. fruitachnid going into their mouth.

I witnessed that, once. Fortunately from a short distance away. Not the mouth part, but the screaming and the cursing and the flailing. It was pretty great.

E: Actually, the really interesting part is that there's, like, this specific sound adult males make when they get a face full of surprise giant bug. I'm not sure if it's cross-cultural, but it's definitely pretty close to ubiquitous in my area. Sort of a mix between a wail and a shout, I think. Along those lines.

The real test to see what sort of person a man is is to watch him walk into a spiderweb.

Though the data is somewhat skewed by people who've spent so long working in places infested with quarter-to-half-dollar sized spiders that like to web across doorways and can do it in <10 minutes that they've become inured to both the shock and the periodic bites. Doesn't mean it isn't satisfying to splat the fuckers, though.

This was basically my reaction to Borderlands 2.
It's as if game developers believe I'm made of money.

My kids are convinced there is such a thing as a skunk-spider. Mainly because my daughter is terrified of skunks for some reason. Always has been. Even though she's never encountered one. So the only thing worse than a skunk would be a skunk-spider.


My WTF is that we took the kids to the local library this weekend and got them library cards. My 4-year old (who really can't read yet) checked out a book on the Large Hadron Collider.
