A lot of earbuds come with a little microphone on the cord nowadays. Doesn't really work on PCs, since you usually have to have a seperate mic jack for that, but phones and whatnot can usually use em.

I think the closest I came to that was after-class talking, which mostly consisted of trying to figure out how to commit tax evasion and fraud. The teacher(s) even joined in a couple times.
