I was able to win the XCOM Base Defense mission in XCOM: Enemy Within + Long War mod on Classic Ironman difficulty. With Assault Rifles. Granted, I still had some of my best soldiers kitted out with Carapace armor, but you've gotta admit that killing Mechtoids, Berserkers, AND Sectoid Commanders before they can do any real damage (except killing a few security personnel), and doing it with CONVENTIONAL BALLISTICS is pretty damn WTF. Especially when I'd been relying on Gauss weapons up until then that could, paraphrase: "Go straight through over 2 meters of ballistic gel without stopping."

I reset my computer because the aforementioned antivirus wanted to update and reset the computer, and I think I just had it on too long.
