There's a reason why the census has only the options "male", "female", and "other". It's inefficient when people want to make up words and have everyone else pander to it.
What I mean to say is that if a person wants to define themselves as a quasigender trouserkin or whatever the balls they've come up with, fine. Just don't expect the rest of society to start listing those as options on every sodding thing.

The mind of my coworker fizzled while I was explaining that there is more than "straight" and "gay" today. "Bi" she took pretty well. When I described "Frigid", though, and explained how this is what I am and I'm not interested in anyone, her brain broke.

So you have your gender:
Male
Female
Male-to-Female Trans
Female-to-Male Trans
None-of-the-above
None

You have your engenderment, how you identify:
Male
Female
None-of-the-above
None

And the result is >(4x6=24) gender/engenderment pairings.

Add in preference, and you now have 24 TIMES 24, or nearly SIX HUNDRED different possibilities, before you even get into the fact that some people have MULTIPLE preferences, which just makes it a combinatorial equation and gets out of hand. Something in the tens of thousands of possibilities.
And society boils it down to a few. Two genders, Male and Female, and four preferences. Your Own-> The other, Your Own-> Your Own, Your Own-> Either, and Your Own -> Neither. And then Society just forgets the fourth preference and makes it three.
