Elite 4, now known as Elite: Dangerous. Elite 3: Frontier 2: First Encounters came out in 95, and I've been waiting for a sequel after I got thoroughly bored with it (after a few years of playing it off and on, mind you).

Honestly WHAT THE FUDGE!!!

The more I learn about 50 Shades of Grey... the more I honestly question the viability of human beings as an intelligent species.

Not because of the material of the book itself... but because not only is the book meant to be taken seriously as erotic romantic literature but people bought it hook line and sinker... When the book is so text book abusive relationship in every sense.

It is kind of my thing with some fiction... Sometimes it is more of the framing and general acceptance of that frame as "acceptable" that bugs me more then the content.

I mean Familiar of Zero for example is a tv show (and manga and visual novel) had horrible abuse scenes which I thought colored the situation perfectly well that this kid wasn't in his world anymore and his "Mistress" could more or less do whatever she wanted to him and would take out her frustrations abusively on him. He could only really grin and bear it and the sort of grim nature of it all really helped suck you into the world. (she is a wizard and she beats him up with a riding crop until he bleeds while he screams in pain)

What KILLED it for me... was that it framed these scenes as hilarious and sexy.

Ana is NOT being whisked away in some sort of BDSM dreamland discovering that she liked it all along with a stern but caring "master" who opens her eyes to the depths of her own sexuality... She is being abused by a monster... Their relationship is shallow and non-existent.

(Spoiler is because what I say is SAD and annoying. Feel free to respond to the spoiler, I just don't want my post looking long.)

I REALLY gotta stop reading this "Lets read" of the book... but it is so funny... But DAMN the book is horrible...

The thing about Fifty Shades is that, for many of its readers, that was their first introduction to BDSM.  Which actually makes it worse because now there are a bunch of people who's concept of BDSM is pretty much the opposite of what it actually means.

It REALLY makes me question if the author was abused (Because Grey is so textbook abusive it is like the book is a textbook for a class on spotting abusive relationships)... or she is just ignorant and doesn't know the difference between BDSM and abuse.
