he's a coder, so he's less likely to be biased.
I do not see the connection here. I think he's just a cool-headed person.
I'm a coder, and I'm incredibly biased.

Anyway, wasn't there a time in the distant past when Toady would spend time on the forums to say things other than "deleted" and "moved to General Discussion"?

Don't have time to read the last couple of pages on my phone, but I just used the phrase (term?) "totally rad". :-[

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

I [vaguely]recall someone[Probably Janet] saying that PPD only counted days you posted on.

Toady One does make posts occasionally, usually in reply to questions about Dwarf Fortress in the upper forums, also if people ask for clarification on a banning or mute he has provided one in the past.

A firm and uncompromising hand is a good thing in my mind. Moderators who get involved with a large community can get drawn into issues to the point that people can see bias where there mightn't be any.

On a small forum, getting involved is more fine, because the users tend to moderate themselves to a better degree, in my experience.

Coming from a small forum that had 12 moderators, all of which were very active in the small community. It worked surprisingly well, there was no to little disputes and they all handled different aspects of the day-to-day forum running.

My favourite old phrase is "Bodacious".

I've started using  the words"Vigorous", "Vigorously and "Vigour" a lot, to the point that my friends have started [facetiously]ascribing any uses of any of those words to my influence.

I've seen people with <1 PPD, so I doubt that's true.

Nah, it seems to pretty explicitly be (posts / (local time - date registered)). Active time definitely isn't involved. Maybe get someone in here with some muted time to find out if there's variance there (doubtful), but that's pretty much dead on for me. Technically it's 4.5557784912, but the forum rounds to three digits so *shrug*

I read The Colour of Magic just a few days ago, dude, the jig is up

THE JIG IS UP
A. There was never any jig, it's just that no one ever got the reference.
A1. damnit
B. It's a good line. I like it, and I stole it. Sounds like they do and did too.

@Toady posting: Example of post with substance, about not posting with substance:
Starting in roughly 2014 we changed how members were registered because of the love bots -- about 2/3rds (very approximately) of the signups before then starting especially around 2011 were spammers.  Now they only get in every once in a while.  I'm still cleaning that up (I've deleted at least ten thousand accounts over the last couple years, and there's a lot left to go).  So total member counts are basically useless, though members online isn't really affected by spammers (except maybe that weird day).  As far as I can tell, the actual-people membership slowly increases, as does the people online, with the release spikes.  Everything else seems to track with that as well, though I haven't done much with it.
From my forum spreadsheet thread.
