It's just like my brother and I do in English. Among the bizarre names we have made up over the years for video game enemies are "bouncing betties" and "thuggalos".

I laughed way harder than I should have at "thuggalos".

The most bizarre incident of that sort that happened to me is when I was absentmindedly monologuing while playing one of those platformer flash games and inexplicably called the final boss... something like "Harlito" or something.

I'm never that good with the mooks, I just called them what they looked like-- before I knew "goomba", it was "mushroom guy", those lizard minibosses in LoZ: Ocarina of Time were "lizard dudes", etc. etc, although a lot of the weird-ass Kirby enemies (the thing that turns into a flying demon when you try to eat it comes to mind) probably earned crazy nicknames.

On a similar note, my sister used to think the wind-up tomato snorkelists or whatever they were supposed to be in Dig-Dug were children.

The spelunking astronaut blew kids up for fun, apparently.

Don't worry, 1984 is still pretty shitty as dystopian novels go. Read Brave New World instead, or A Clockwork Orange if you're in the mood for a touch of the old ultraviolence and can find a copy of the original British release.

Mostly my two major complaints of 1984 was...

a) Language doesn't work that way
and
b) The situation created by the novel doesn't hold up under its own weight and yet it is expected to go on... forever?

Seriously it is like George Orwell believed in Stalin based Communism... since WOW given they pretty much hold ALL the power, they aren't even a bit greedy or impatient.
