Actually the mitochondrion is an organelle, with it's own DNA, proteins and ribosomes. This has led to the creation of a theory that it was actually once a bacteria but both the cell and the mitochondria have evolved so as the mitochondrion is now an organelle of the cell. Basically what it does is it takes oxygen and glucose to synthesise ATP molecules via cellular breathing.

It also has a double membrane.

oh god my laptop got put into a bag with a bottle of water and the water leaked.  on screen keyboard saves the day but several keys seem borked.  im typing this with an external board, but arrruughh
