Its sort of interesting watching the thread purging in action, actually. If only it were in different circumstances.

I feel like, the lower boards (from other games downward) seem to cause issues, and they must cost a lot to host, but they aren't really connected to dwarf fortress. I sometimes question if this boards are worth it for toady to keep running. Not that I would want them to not exist, but I mean, it seems like a natural conclusion to me that they are very quite possibly not worth it to him.

It was an extension of an upperboards argument. So... Not really.

Alright, well in this case yeah, the upper boards share some blame. But all one has to do is look at the moderator list to see that most of these things come from the lower boards. I can't really remember these people more then a year or two back, but for most of the time frame where I do have a recollection a majority of people on those lists caused issues down here.

Probably due to the fact that the lower board is much broader in scope.. thus attracting a myriad of viewpoints and personalities.

I dunno if there is actually a set definition, in my mind I've thought of Other Games downward as the lower boards, Slaves to Armok: God of Blood and Curses as a strange no mans land, and everything above them as the upper boards.

Upperboards is the DF focused boards. Othergames and below is pretty much lower boards. Though honestly, I think just removing the lower boards would cause much more issues up in the upper boards. Which are pretty strongly focused on DF, and DF is a huge game. It needs that strong focus.

The lack of SOME sort of off topic board could make some people stir crazy. Thus why there was an explosion of board types after VN was removed instead of a blank spot.

The lower boards are pretty much the soul of the forum. You get new players looking through the lobby DF Discussion, glancing at the crusty stairs down to the Slaves to Armok subforum, passing through the bloodstained corridors of LCS and Mafia, before finally reaching the wide, open valley of General Discussion.
The oldest and most active members are here. Some of them kind of sink into the floor or are banhammered, but for the most part it's very lively.
