I decided not to post anymore. Just ignore it.
I just find it a bit infuriating to see a negative reaction from *both* sides of the coin on that issue. Because, seriously, you can change three numbers and make things explicitly how you want them to be.
Then the suggestion that civilizations might have entity reactions to such things like a new feature like sexual orientation gets flamed and flamed upon.. When it's just, honestly, needed. Unless you want all races and cultures to treat it the same, and I feel like as someone mentioned elves would be more open to the idea of free sexuality. Dwarves maybe less so, but we have no actual canon or lore to base a decision like that on. The only race I can think of that would be anti-gay might be Goblins and Kobolds due to their mainly patriarchal societies.
The others are fairly egalitarian, much more than any medieval nation would have ever been, so the norms of medieval perceptions shouldn't be applied to those people.
I'm just saying a new feature shouldn't be controversial if it's so flexible that you can literally make it entirely hostile to gays or entirely hostile to straights. That's.. a pretty well-implemented system. Remember; the idea of DF not having sexual orientation will be a distant memory, now, mind you, like the old military screens and river ambushes..
The arguments will fade and become 'how do we tweak this to my liking' like they always do. I just haven't seen such a caustic response from Bay12 to something so simple [albeit controversial, sure] in a while.
