I've heard that warcraft 1 had a really good AI that you cannot beat unless you know what are you doing.

Back in the days, AI's were designed to win, not to lose, like today.

I think you guys may have the nostalgia goggles on.  Old games had fucking stupid AI, which is why they cheated so much.  Also why they almost always ignored LoS.  At least nowadays there are a few games with excellent AI (like Galactic Civs 2) and most of the rest manage to be passable.

Yeaaah... if you want oldschool AI, just make a map that gives the computer 2-300% resource acquisition rate, omniscience, and probably some degree of production boost. Bam, AI of yesteryear.
