Oh man those things, Monkey Island had one as well. I've got a PDF of that Pool of Radiance one, someone went to a lot of trouble scanning it in every position.

They also had in game DRM too... well kind of. Instead of characters talking to you in game, they'd say a quick introduction then the game would refer you to the appropriate page in the manual for the rest. There was a number of fake entries as well to discourage reading ahead and spoiling the story.

We've got a hell of a storm here.

1:00 PM, middle of summer, completely dark. That's the cloud cover we're talking about. It's pouring rain, the wind's blowing, lightning barraging us. It's freakin' cool!

EDIT: The water on the street outside is deep enough for the wind to make waves in it.

I remember old SSI DRM.  I had a copy of Darksun which pretty much had the more usual, go to page x line y word z of the manual and give that word.

The copy I had came with a pack of a bunch of SSI games, all without the manuals, but it had a code sheet for each of the games.  Naturally I lost it, but it had a limited number of words it asked for and I had one or two answers memorized for each game, and I would just reload til I got one I knew.

Then Darksun pulled a dick move, I finally got to the end of the game, almost the final battle and what happens?  The dragon shows up again and asks me another password, from an entirely different pool.  I don't know any of these ones (in fact they may not have even been on the original sheet I got).  Though at least if I get this one wrong the game just throws an impossible fight at me with 30 or so enemies including a bit over half a dozen reapers instead of outright giving a game over like it does if you get it wrong leaving the sewer.

I mean the site.  I don't like to use sites that only one person has recommended to me.  Especially when they have a clear shindig, like Asshat does.

To be fair - basing this on the ones I've played, although that was years ago because we lost the disc - I can't see playing Command & Conquer games on consoles being anything but a major pain in the rear, particularly for controls.

I had Red Alert 3 for xbox. It wasn't bad. You couldn't do any micromanaging, though. I think when it comes to strategy games, PCs have an auto win. Especially since if they're popular enough someone will release a mod or software to let people play online anyway.

A quick google search of that list reveals that those are the titles that EA is ceasing multiplayer support for at the end of June.
