Not that difficult.

Trust me, it happens all the time.

Partly because we haven't explained everything.

Mostly because urgh, experiments.

Welp

Why would you make me click on that link?
Now I have to clear my history.
Made you click on it a month ago?
Yeah, and don't you have a graveyard to attend to somewhere in Hyrule? You'd think they would hire reliable help one of these days...

No, I very specifically had to use Stokes' Law for that. But when I substitute the variables with values, the terminal velocity for 1mm raindrop at 20 Celsius is consistently 123 m/s. Which is quite absurd.

Rain would be a lot more hardcore were that the case.
You wouldn't want to be naked in the rain anyway, that's for sure. That's something like the muzzle velocity of a musket.

The sound would probably be incredible, though. If I could find shelter (and maybe hearing protection), I don't think I'd mind being in a storm with raindrops moving like musketshot.

... I just realized I spent like 20 minutes hitting the new replies button on this forum so my iPad would recognize that as what I want when I type "up" into the address bar.

Perhaps the deformation of the drop is relevant? Probably not enough to account for that difference, though.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I would say that the difference between a sphere and a hemisphere is quite significant.

I found an article on modelling drops, and it claimed SL starts to fail at droplets above 0.1 mm, but solving that would take iterative analysis for Reasons (TM), and the exercise is simplified anyhow.

You could say that the winner is null.
