Oh, and let's up the ante even further: if we had the capacity to construct a wholly artificial muscle cell from the ground up - just a single cell, incapable of anything more than performing the contraction and surviving - animal or not?

Not quite sure why you would think slime "MOLDS" are animals anyhow.

Single Celled organisms that are part of the animal kingdom are rather distinct.

Because there's deer that need killin' or else they'll continue their locust-swarm like destruction of everything plant-based and we might as well eat them once they're dead. Same with the rabbits.
